Canadian Dental Care Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government initiative designed to make dental care more affordable for eligible Canadians. It provides coverage for various oral health services to Canadians who meet specific criteria.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

  • Not have access to dental insurance, including through employment, a family member, or a purchased plan.

  • Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 per year.

  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

  • Have filed your tax return for the previous year.
     

Note: If you have dental coverage through a government social program (e.g., provincial or territorial plans), you may still qualify for the CDCP.

What services are covered?

  • Preventive care: cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants

  • Diagnostic services: exams and X-rays

  • Restorative services: fillings and crowns

  • Endodontic services: root canal treatments

  • Prosthodontic services: complete and partial dentures

  • Periodontal services: deep scaling

  • Oral surgery services: extractions

How much will be covered?

The amount the CDCP covers depends on your adjusted family net income*:

Under $70,000

100% of eligible service costs covered.

$70,000–$79,999

60% covered

You pay 40%.

$80,000–$89,999

40% covered

You pay 60%.

*Additional charges may apply if the dental provider's fees exceed the CDCP's established rates or if you agree to services not covered by the plan.

How to Apply

You can apply online through the Government of Canada's CDCP page, by phone, or by visiting a Service Canada Centre.

Applications for the CDCP are being currently open for:

  • Seniors aged 65 and over

  • Children under 18 and adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate

  • Adults aged 18 to 34
