What are root canals?
When a tooth is injured, fractured, or decayed, an infection can develop to the extent that a root canal must be performed to remove the decay and save the tooth from extraction. Once the decay, pulp, and nerve tissue is removed, the resulting cavity is filled with a rubber-like substance. A crown or filling is then put over the tooth.
Choosing root canal therapy and saving your original tooth is often the best option for your dental health and budget (as preserving a tooth is less costly than having it extracted and replaced with a bridge, denture, or implant).
Are you experiencing pain?
Most patients come in for a root canal because they’re already in pain. If you have a tooth ache, need a missing tooth replaced, a chipped or broken tooth repaired, or need treatment for tender or swollen gums, we encourage you to contact us right away. When we can diagnose your condition quickly, we can get you feeling comfortable, determine if you need a root canal to treat decay and prevent potential tooth loss, and help you make a full recovery as soon as possible.
